Red Riding Hood est un film fantastique américain réalisé par Catherine Hardwicke, sorti en salles le 11 mars 2011 après une avant-première hollywoodienne le 7 mars. Alors que Valerie et Peter s’apprêtent à fuir ensemble, la trêve est rompue et sa sœur est tuée par la créature. Les villageois font alors appel à un célèbre chasseur de monstres, qui les avertit que le loup prend forme humaine le jour, semant la suspicion entre voisins et proches. Au fil de son enquête, Valerie en vient à soupçonner que la bête pourrait être quelqu’un qu’elle aime, la contraignant à démêler vérité et manipulation au sein même de sa communauté.
Le projet est initié par Catherine Hardwicke, alors récemment associée au premier film Twilight, et produit par Leonardo DiCaprio via sa société Appian Way, sur un scénario de David Leslie Johnson. Le choix d’Amanda Seyfried, alors âgée de 26 ans, pour incarner une Valerie plus adulte que l’héroïne originelle du conte, s’accompagne de l’ajout d’un personnage inédit, le chasseur de loups incarné par Gary Oldman, qui introduit une dimension inquisitoriale absente de la source folklorique. Le tournage s’est déroulé en Colombie-Britannique, au Canada, pour reconstituer le village médiéval isolé du récit. Des tensions entre Amanda Seyfried et Shiloh Fernandez, nées d’une rencontre antérieure au tournage, ont nécessité l’intervention de la réalisatrice pour rétablir une dynamique de travail entre les deux acteurs. La date de sortie, initialement prévue le 22 avril 2011, a été avancée au 11 mars de la même année.
