Les Femmes de ses rêves (The Heartbreak Kid) est une comédie romantique américaine réalisée par Bobby et Peter Farrelly, sortie en 2007. Remake du film Le Brise-cœur d’Elaine May, sorti en 1972, le film est sorti aux États-Unis le 5 octobre 2007 puis en France le 28 novembre de la même année. Porté par Ben Stiller dans le rôle principal, aux côtés de Michelle Monaghan, Malin Åkerman, Jerry Stiller, Rob Corddry et Danny McBride, The Heartbreak Kid suit un célibataire quadragénaire dont le mariage précipité tourne au cauchemar dès la lune de miel.
Eddie Cantrow, quarantenaire toujours célibataire, est poussé par son père et son meilleur ami à se marier au plus vite. Suivant leurs conseils, il épouse Lila, une jeune femme rencontrée peu de temps auparavant après lui être venu en aide lors d’un vol à l’arraché, et part avec elle en voyage de noces au Mexique. Dès les premiers jours sur place, Eddie découvre une facette bien différente de la personnalité de Lila et commence à douter profondément de son choix. Sur place, il croise également la route de Miranda, une jeune femme qui semble incarner tout ce qu’il recherchait chez une compagne, et se retrouve tiraillé entre son mariage tout juste célébré et cette rencontre inattendue, sans que l’issue de cette situation ne soit ici dévoilée.
Le projet, adapté d’une nouvelle de Bruce Jay Friedman, a connu un développement long et chaotique : Barry Sonnenfeld devait initialement le réaliser en 2004 avant de se retirer, tandis que plusieurs acteurs, dont Jason Bateman, Amy Poehler puis Gwyneth Paltrow, ont un temps été pressentis pour les rôles principaux avant que les frères Farrelly ne reprennent le projet en 2005 avec Ben Stiller et Malin Åkerman. Le tournage s’est déroulé notamment au Mexique pour les scènes de lune de miel, et The Heartbreak Kid a initialement porté le titre de travail The Seven Day Itch, abandonné à la suite d’un litige sur les droits du nom. La photographie a été confiée à Matthew F. Leonetti et la musique composée par Bill et Brendan Ryan.
The Heartbreak Kid a rencontré un accueil critique majoritairement négatif, en particulier dans les pays anglophones, où il recueille 29 % d’avis favorables sur Rotten Tomatoes pour une moyenne de 4,6 sur 10, et 46 sur 100 sur Metacritic. En France, la presse compilée par AlloCiné se montre plus mesurée, avec une note moyenne de 3,3 sur 5, tandis que le public lui attribue 2,5 sur 5. Sur le plan commercial, le film a néanmoins connu un net succès, rapportant plus de 128 millions de dollars dans le monde pour un budget d’environ 60 millions. The Heartbreak Kid reste aujourd’hui perçu comme l’une des œuvres les plus mineures de la filmographie des frères Farrelly, loin du succès critique et populaire de leurs précédentes collaborations avec Ben Stiller comme Mary à tout prix.
